Discover La Lonja In Valencia
After you’ve found the perfect property in Spain and have made the big move abroad to your beautiful Valencia villas, it’s time to start really exploring the city and its surrounding areas – and we here at Azahar Properties think a great place to begin would be the Silk Exchange, or La Lonja.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Silk Exchange is one of the most iconic buildings in the entire city and is in fact one of the most famous gothic monuments to be found in Europe, so chances are you’ve seen pictures of it on your travels already.
You’ll find it near the Central Market and the Temple of Santos Juane (the perfect location to continue your exploration of the city centre itself once you’ve been inside). It was built between 1482 and 1548, and looks really rather like a medieval castle, so perfect for any true-blue history buffs. It once served as the premier post for the silk trade and the Trading Hall is truly emblematic of the wealth and power of this Mediterranean city during the 15th and 16th centuries.
It’s open all year round, including Sundays and Bank Holidays, so there’s no excuse not to make time to go and see it at least once! And after you’ve had a good look around, we’d recommend you move on to the Central Market, a wonderfully hectic shopping extravaganza full of hustle and bustle… another Valencia must-see, we’re sure you’ll agree.
