Skiing Valencia
With a blast of cold air coming in from the north, now is the time to hit the ski resorts! You can enjoy a day in the mountains walking or skiing by driving only an hour and a half north for a choice of two ski resorts.
Valdelinares, the first, slightly smaller ski resort and is the prettier out of the two resorts and probably better for advanced skiers. It is located just across the north west border of Valencia, in the region of Aragon.
This is relatively ‘tourist free’ zone, virtually untouched by international tourism so its a great place to visit away from the madding crowds. At the weekends it is mostly the locals or a few Spanish tourists, so you don´t normally encounter the long queues for the ski lifts.
The ski resort itself is pretty well equipped and has 13 kilometres of ski runs through some amazing scenery. There is a ski school and hire shops open if you need any equipment and two cosy café bars if you need a stiff drink for nursing those aches and pains away!
You could always turn it into an overnight stay with plenty of hotels available in the nearby pretty little villages. Top tip from Azahar Properties: The Aragon cuisine is well known for its rustic, traditional food, so make sure you stop for a late lunch after your skiing day in one of the traditional restaurants in Camarena de la Sierra or Mora de los Rubielos.
The second very popular ski resort of Javalambre which is more suitable for families, with 15 kilometres of runs. This too is well equipped with a ski school, a three café bars and restaurant. Both resorts, although relatively small can offer a fantastic day out spent with friends and family.
